The LOFLC Commiserates With the Victims of the Davao City Flood

The Leap of Faith Learning Center extends its deepest sympathies to the victims of the Davao City flood, which occurred on June 28, 2011 (Tuesday) around 10:00 in the evening.

The school is extremely saddened by the sudden loss of lives as well as the severe devastation to property in and among the school’s neighbors in Bangkal, Matina, and Talomo, which were brought about by the heavy rain that unexpectedly caused a flash flood in Davao City. The school offers its prayers to all the residents affected by the flood in Davao City, not to mention its students and their families, who likewise lost most of their belongings.

The Leap of Faith Learning Center was in fact not spared from the same Davao City flood, so that the school had to suspend classes until Monday of the following week. Fortunately, for the school, the floodwater was not that high, which was only about knee-deep and it only caused minimal damage. The faculty and staff only had to re-arrange and clean the classrooms, the quadrangle, and the rest of the school premises. We are happy that the school was able to provide a temporary shelter to nearby residents during the onslaught of the flood in Davao City; and at the same time, just like anybody else, we are sad that the school could not do anything more at the time.

The recent Davao City flood came as a surprise not only to the DavaoeƱos, but to the rest of the Filipinos as well, as it is a common knowledge that the said City hardly experience floods of such enormity. At any rate, speaking not only of Davao City, but on a national and even global scale, it is becoming more palpable that the incidences of floods and other natural calamities have widely spread across various geographical areas all over the world. With this in mind, it is about time that people double their efforts in seriously acting on the campaign to protect and save Mother Earth.

The Leap of Faith Learning Center would like to express the view that this Davao City flood, among others, should be a lesson to all of us not to take our environment and natural resources for granted. We advise the parents to teach and to remind your kids of this faithful duty and responsibility to take care of the environment. We urge the Leapians to help keep your surroundings clean by not littering anywhere and by disposing of your trash properly. We further urge the Leapians to take care of the plants and trees in your place and even those that you see around you.

Finally, the school encourages everyone to join us in prayer so that while this unfortunate incident will never be forgotten, the affected victims of the Davao City flood will, in due course, recover from the trauma caused by this very untoward occurrence.
