Towards a Brighter, Greener Future

The Leapians were officially endorsed and promoted to their respective ranks as little green patrols, after the Scouting Investiture that was held last October 1, 2010 at the LOFLC quadrangle.

For a short trivia, as early as 1910, scouting was introduced in the Philippines by the Americans whose Boy Scouts organization was founded by Robert Baden-Powell. Eventually, through the issuance of Commonwealth Act No. 111 by then President Manuel L. Quezon on October 31, 1936, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines was established as a public corporation tasked, according to Section 3 of the law: “to promote through organization and cooperation with other agencies, the ability of boys to do things for themselves and others, to train them in Scout craft, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self-reliance, and kindred virtues, using the methods which are in common use by Boy Scouts.”  At present, Vice President Jejomar C. Binay is the BSP National President, and at the same time, the Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Committee.

Similarly, Girl Scouting is a worldwide movement that is independent and non-governmental, wherein girls and young women participate in nation-building through cooperation with the home, school, church, government units and other agencies. Josefa Llanes Escoda is the founder of the Girls Scouts of the Philippines.

In sum, the Scouting curriculum is not only a nationally but especially an internationally recognized core program for children and young adults world-wide, which helps develop these children into who the world needs them to be – well-rounded persons who will lead us into a brighter future.  Here at LOFLC, we believe in this ideal and the recent scouting investiture was only one among the many ways we intend to promote and protect the scouting objectives of character building and citizenship training.  Now at LOFLC, we are proud to have the new Twinkler and Kid Scouts (Levels 2 and 3), the Stars and Cub Scouts (Grades 1 to 3), and the Junior Boy and Girl Scouts (Grade 4).

The day’s activity was followed by an overnight camping participated in by Grades 1 to 4.  The Leapians were brought together in camaraderie made even stronger by this overnight camping.  The scouts were made to complete various games and activities, which all aimed at inculcating in them the values of love, friendship, teamwork, trust, courage and sportsmanship. The scouts had a good exercise the next day when they went in a nature hike and adventure with visits along the way, to some churches and retreat houses, among others, the church of the Sisters of Presentation of Mary in Bangkal.

The two-day Scouting event ended with the recognition and the conferment of awards to the deserving Scouts and participants.  We salute you Leapian Scouts!
