The Leapians Study Davao

The Leapians from Grades 1 to 4 were all thrilled to go on their educational tour around some of the cultural and political centers in Davao City last February 11, 2011, and became even more ecstatic after they arrived from the day’s trip.

It is part of the Leap of Faith Learning Center’s Vision, Mission, and Goal to facilitate the growth and development of our students into well-rounded persons, with an end view that they become mentally, emotionally, socially, morally, and spiritually mature and competent persons.

The school highly believes that this purpose would be best accomplished with the help of the family, the society, and the government.  Hence, the school has made an annual excursion to various government and non-government agencies an important part of its curriculum.

This particular field trip is primarily focused on community awareness in relation to the children’s lessons about Kultura at Kasuotan ng mga Pilipino as well as the different government and community leaders and workers.  More specifically, the activity is for the children to be acquainted with the roles of various government institutions in order for the children to know where to go should the need arise.

The school has especially chosen Davao Central Communication and Emergency Response Center (Central 911), Sangguniang Panlungsod, Museo Dabawenyo and the Mindanao Folk Arts Museum, respectively, to be the children’s stops this year.

The Central 911 is Davao City’s fully computerized and integrated police, fire, medical, rescue and K-9 emergency response center.  Actually, Davao City is said to be the first in Asia to have been effectively implementing and benefiting from the Central 911.  The project was officially launched in September 27, 2002, under the leadership of former Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte in partnership with the Davao Light and Power Company.  In 2010, incumbent Mayor Sara Z. Duterte had transferred Central 911’s office from Bangoy St. to Ecoland St..  The present office is now bigger and replete with newer facilities.  To date, the Central 911 has served and saved hundreds, probably even thousands already, of the Davaoeños.

On the other hand, the Sangguniang Panlungsod is a significant place because it seats one of the three branches of the local government – the local legislative body – which enacts the City’s resolutions and ordinances.  The Sangguniang Panlungsod is where the Davao City councilors, together with the Vice Mayor, have their offices.  It is the place where the councilors conduct their respective committee hearings, as well as their regular and special sessions, which the Vice Mayor usually presides.

Lastly, the Museo Dabaw and the Mindanao Folk Arts Museum are only two among other many repositories that keep and preserve evidences of Davao City’s rich and diverse culture.  These places showcase a number of age-old prized possessions, costumes, and artifacts of the Davao Region’s various ethnic groups and indigenous cultural communities.  In fact, due primarily to modernization, many of these unique authentic products can no longer be found nowadays.

The school cannot be remiss in not giving credit to the hosts of this day’s activity.  Without a doubt, they made it a success beyond measure.  To the Davao Central Communication and Emergency Response Center (Central 911), Sangguniang Panlungsod, Museo Dabaw, Mindanao Folk Arts Museum, and the local government of Davao City altogether, with special mention to the heads and personnel who led and facilitated the tours in their respective places, the entire LOFLC family thanks you very much.  Your genuine commitment and dedication to serve the community have truly been an inspiration to the Leapians.
